Legacy system modernization UAE: re-engineer, migrate or replace the systems your business has outgrown

Legacy system modernization UAE companies put off usually ends with a forced decision. The developer has left, the server is out of support or the auditor has questions. Next Orbit takes the pressure out of that moment. We map what the old system actually does and decide module by module whether to re-engineer, migrate or replace it. The business keeps running throughout. Data is migrated with reconciliation, not copied and hoped for.

  • Module-by-module decisions
  • Data migrated and reconciled
  • AWS or Azure cloud
  • Old and new in parallel

Quick answer

What is legacy modernisation and who is it for?

Legacy system modernization UAE businesses need is the controlled replacement of ageing applications with systems that are supported, secure and able to integrate. Next Orbit begins with an assessment. It covers what the system does, who depends on it, where the data lives and which parts still earn their keep. Each module is then re-engineered on a modern stack, migrated to AWS or Azure, replaced by a platform such as e-tijariX, or retired. Data moves with mapping, cleansing and reconciliation reports, and the old and new systems run in parallel until the figures agree. The outcome is documented, tested software in your own cloud account, with Arabic and English screens where needed.

  • What legacy costs. Unsupported runtimes, one person who understands the code, no API for new tools, manual re-keying between systems and audit findings about access and backups.
  • What the options are. Re-engineer the code on a modern stack or lift it to the cloud with minimal change. Replace it with a platform, or retire it and move the data.
  • What we deliver. Assessment and roadmap, re-engineering or replacement, cloud migration on AWS or Azure, data migration with reconciliation, parallel running, training, documentation and support.
  • Office. Next Orbit Technologies L.L.C, 509-23, Mai Tower, Al Nahda 1, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, serving the whole UAE, the GCC and globally.
  • Built around your operation The architecture is agreed with you before any code, so the system fits how you already work.
  • Proven before you commit A prototype built around your workflow shows it working before the main investment.
  • Ready for the UAE Arabic and English, UAE compliance such as VAT and e-invoicing where it applies, UAE hosting where your rules require it, secure by design.

What we deliver

Legacy modernisation: what Next Orbit builds and runs for you

Pick a deliverable to see what it covers and the part of the stack behind it.

Deliverable 01

Assessment and roadmap first

We inventory the application, its integrations, reports, users and data, and interview the people who depend on it. The roadmap ranks modules by business risk and technical debt, with a recommendation for each: re-engineer, migrate, replace or retire. Costs are then estimated per module, not for a vague whole.

From the stack

  • PostgreSQL
  • Node.js
  • Python / Django / FastAPI
  • Power BI

Deliverable 02

Software re-engineering in Dubai

Code written in Visual Basic, classic ASP, older PHP or Oracle Forms is rebuilt on React, Next.js, Node.js or Python. The new build has a relational database and a documented API. Business rules are extracted from the old code and confirmed with users before they are rewritten, so behaviour that mattered is kept.

From the stack

  • Node.js
  • Python / Django / FastAPI
  • PostgreSQL
  • MySQL

Deliverable 03

Cloud application development on AWS and Azure

Applications are containerised or rebuilt as cloud services with infrastructure as code, automated deployments, backups, monitoring and access control. Workloads run in your own AWS or Azure account, or as a dedicated deployment where your compliance rules require it. Our cloud and DevOps team runs this work.

From the stack

  • Power BI
  • Node.js
  • Python / Django / FastAPI
  • Laravel / PHP

Deliverable 04

Replacing spreadsheets and Access databases

Operations that grew up in Excel and Microsoft Access are mapped as processes. They are then rebuilt as a database application with roles, validation, approvals and reports. Where the process is standard, such as sales, inventory, purchasing or payroll, we implement e-tijariX instead of building from scratch.

From the stack

  • PostgreSQL
  • Node.js
  • Power BI
  • Python / Django / FastAPI

Deliverable 05

Data migration with reconciliation

Mapping documents, cleansing rules and trial loads come before the real cut-over. Record counts, balances and key reports are reconciled between old and new systems. The migration approach we use for accounting packages applies the same discipline to any legacy database.

From the stack

  • PostgreSQL
  • Laravel / PHP
  • .NET
  • Power BI

Deliverable 06

Parallel running and handover

The old and new systems run side by side for an agreed period while users compare results and report differences. Training is role-based and recorded. At handover you receive the code, infrastructure definitions, documentation and a support agreement, with the old system archived in a readable format.

From the stack

  • Power BI
  • Node.js

Why organisations come to us for legacy modernisation

  1. We work from one office in Dubai, at Mai Tower in Al Nahda.

Clients come from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, the whole UAE and the GCC. The systems we see most are custom applications written years ago in Visual Basic, classic ASP, PHP or Oracle Forms. Others are accounting packages that no longer fit and operations run on spreadsheets and Access databases. Where a modern platform fits, we implement e-tijariX; where it does not, we rebuild.

How a typical legacy modernisation system fits together

Before a line of production code is written we draw the system: the people who use it, the services behind it and the systems it must talk to. This reference architecture from our custom software development practice is the starting point we adapt to your operation.

Questions, answered

Legacy modernisation in the UAE: questions we are asked

01 When is legacy system modernization in the UAE worth doing?

When the system blocks something the business needs. Examples are a new sales channel, an integration with a bank or government portal, or an audit requirement. Another trigger is a new hire who cannot learn an undocumented tool. If the system is stable and nobody needs to change it, leaving it in place can be the right call.

02 Do you offer cloud application development (AWS, Azure) in the UAE?

Yes. We build and migrate applications on AWS and Azure for UAE companies, using infrastructure as code so environments can be rebuilt on demand. Region choice, data residency and access policies are agreed with your IT and compliance teams. A dedicated deployment is available where your compliance rules require it.

03 How do you handle application migration to the cloud in the UAE?

We start by profiling the application: runtime, database, file storage, integrations and scheduled jobs. Simple workloads are containerised and moved with minimal change. Workloads with heavy technical debt are re-engineered before the move, so you do not pay to host a problem. Cut-over happens with a rehearsed runbook and rollback plan.

04 Can you replace our spreadsheets and Access databases with e-tijariX?

Often, yes. Sales, quoting, inventory, purchasing, finance, VAT and payroll are standard processes that e-tijariX, which Next Orbit implements and supports, covers in Arabic and English. We demonstrate on Next Orbit sample data first, then configure the system for your business. Processes that are unique to you are built as custom modules.

05 Will the business stop during the migration?

No. The old system keeps running while the new one is built and loaded. Trial migrations happen on copies of the data, and the real cut-over is scheduled for a quiet period with a rollback plan. Parallel running then lets users compare results before the old system is switched off.

06 Do you modernise systems for companies in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah?

Yes. Assessment interviews and training are held on site in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and across the UAE and the GCC when needed. Engineering and migration work run from our one office in Dubai, with remote access to your environments agreed with your IT team.

07 Who owns the rebuilt system afterwards?

You do. Source code, infrastructure definitions, database and documentation sit in accounts registered in your name, and the support agreement is optional. If the old system contained business rules nobody had written down, they are now documented in the new code and the functional specification.
